Acne & Acne Scarring
What is Acne?
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, presenting as blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, nodules or cysts. It most often affects the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders, and can occur at any age, from adolescence to adulthood.
Why It Happens
Acne develops when oil glands overproduce sebum, follicles become blocked with dead skin cells, and acne-causing bacteria multiply within these blocked follicles, triggering inflammation. Hormonal changes, genetics, stress and certain medications can contribute to the development of acne.
Our Approach
Dr Gupta takes a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to acne, combining topical and oral prescription treatment with laser therapy where appropriate, including BBL HEROic to reduce inflammation and redness. Dr Gupta also offers a range of treatments to manage acne scarring. Because acne is rarely just a skin-deep concern, your treatment plan will also consider its impact on your self image.
Understanding Acne Scarring
Acne scarring can leave lasting marks long after active acne has disappeared, and can affect confidence as much as the acne itself. Scars can be defined by their characteristics, including atrophic scars (icepick, boxcar and rolling scars, which create depressions in the skin), hypertrophic and keloid scars (raised, firm scars from excess collagen), and post-inflammatory pigmentation or redness in previously affected areas.
Treatment at Solara
As a procedural dermatology practice, Solara offers one of Adelaide's broadest ranges of acne scar treatments, tailored to your specific scar type:
HALO Tribrid, ProFractional and Contour TRL for textural and atrophic scarring
ClearV and ClearSilk for residual redness and vascular changes
TCA CROSS for isolated, deep pitted scars
Corticosteroid injections for raised, hypertrophic or keloid scars
Surgical techniques such as subcision, for deeper scarring
Because acne scarring often responds best to more than one modality, Dr Gupta builds a staged treatment plan tailored to your scar pattern, skin type and goals.
