Cumulative sun exposure can present in a number of ways, from surface pigmentation and broken capillaries through to precancerous actinic keratoses and deeper textural damage. Solara's treatment approach is based on an assessment of how extensive and how deep the damage is, and options may include:
BBL HEROic and HALO Tribrid for surface pigmentation, redness and early textural change
Laser-assisted PDT for extensive sun damage and actinic keratoses, potentially treating the whole affected area
Ablative laser resurfacing for deeper, more advanced sun damage
Laser-Assisted Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Laser-assisted photodynamic therapy (PDT) is one of Solara Dermatology's key treatments for extensive sun damage. PDT treats both visible actinic keratoses and the surrounding sun-damaged skin, including precancerous changes that may not yet be visible. This makes it particularly effective for managing field cancerisation and widespread keratotic damage, while also improving overall skin quality.
How It Works
A photosensitising solution is applied to the skin and allowed to absorb into sun-damaged cells. Laser or light activation of this solution then selectively targets and treats the affected cells, while sparing surrounding healthy skin.
What to Expect
PDT is typically performed over one or more sessions, depending on the extent of sun damage. Some redness, sensitivity and peeling in the days following treatment is expected as part of the normal healing process.
